![]() ![]() Unclear if the cause was the Symbols update not being performed (and forcing one via regkey deletion) or it not being able to complete due to being offline on post-update boot. Then rebooted which went well and only after the reboot did I get a notification confirming a Symbols update. ![]() I'm also wondering if the issue was rebooting post-update without a network connection so that Symbols update couldn't be fetched, leading to a crash loop.Įdit: I removed the regkeys just to be safe before installing ExplorerPatcher again. If the linked #1702 basically relies on a symbols update, would a new install not suffer this? Eventually managed to kill explorer.exe before it crashed, get a command line open to get to the uninstall programs window (run > control appwiz.cpl). The crashes brought the PC to its knees despite normal resource usage. ![]() ![]() Explorer.exe kept crashing every 5-10 seconds after 22621.2134 was pushed and I couldn't break out of it. Last time this happened to me, I had to go into windows recovery mode with a windows installer USB and force delete a file to allow the computer to start again without crashing.Ĭertainly didn't for me. I also feel like antivirus vendors sometimes enjoy using these tactics to hinder small development by scaring users away because something is presumably 'malicious'.īeta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback. At least EP now has a way to recover out of a crash loop now, which is great. ExplorerPatcher 22621.1555.55.1 Razvan Serea 03:48 EDT 0 ExplorerPatcher is a versatile and free tool that allows you to tweak and enhance the Windows. The solution for this would be to digitally sign the file, then the antivirus would most likely shut up, but I do not have a code signing certificate and do not really intend to acquire one, since I think I took the necessary precautions to make sure the delivered builds are clean, plus, there's always the option of checking out and building the code oneself for anyone that's interested. By the nature of this program, which does a ton of memory manipulation, heuristics in antivirus products might flag the file as suspicious. The CI system takes the latest source code and builds it in clean VMs. Builds are automated, I do not touch them. It has no malware, this has been discussed a couple of times already, there are similar issues closed and opened if you search past history. ![]()
